Garden harvest

Here's a picture of some of the carrots from our garden. Bryson grew them from seed and we're so happy how many we've been able to harvest! We've also been able to harvest and enjoy lettuce, peas, and green onions. Now we're waiting on our tomatoes, peppers and lemon cucumbers. I can't wait!

CSA

Bryson and I decided this year we would join a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). I remember our family getting half a CSA bushel when I was growing up and it was fun to see what we would get each week. Today was our first pick up day and we got different salad greens (a bag of mixed greens, a bag of arugula and a head of romaine lettuce), radishes, scallions and kohlrabi. Plus we also got a cookbook! So although I have no idea what kohlrabi is, I'm excited to find out and get cooking!

So cool!

Bryson and I love to read and we love reading to Emerson, so I was excited when I saw that our library had a summer reading program for ages three and under! There are different activities that you get to with your child to not only help literacy skills but language skills as well. Plus there's little prizes for the kids and the parents. It's been so fun to do these activities with Emerson and hopefully it'll help him develop his own love of reading!

The last month or so in pictures

First ride in a swing that he didn't cry about!

 Homemade bagels. So good!!

Finished product

These are green onions from our garden. Once we had trimmed all of the green onions in our garden we had filled both sides of the sink! We froze some and made a big batch of green onion pesto. It's good!

The last couple pictures are of some of the flowers around the house and our strawberries.

This table used to be our deck table but now Bryson is going to turn it into a greenhouse! PS I love those purple flowers! :)

Mom's visit and Emerson's first birthday!

My mom came to visit for Emerson's birthday and we had so much fun! Emerson was so excited to have Grandma come and be his buddy as he crawled around and played. He thought it was so cool that Grandma would crawl on the floor with him as he discovered fun things to do around the house! We got to go on lots of walks, we went up to the big farmer's market in Madison, ate great food and had plenty of frosty freeze! We had a great time with Grandma here and we were sad when it was time for her to go home. We're excited though for Grandma to come and visit in September!

The Sunday before Emerson's birthday we had some close friends over for dinner and cake. Although it was a couple days before his birthday, we figured it was close enough and let Emerson try cake for the first time in his life. It took him a little while to really get into the cake cause he was playing with the frosting, but he finally did and had a great time with it! On his actual birthday we had a nice relaxing day playing with new toys, driving to a lovely little Amish store outside of town, having lunch at Red Robin, and of course having ice cream that night for dessert. We love our little munchkin and can't believe that it has been a year already!

Dancing with Grandma!
